If you’re looking to dive into some new projects to ready your house for the market before moving, now might be a great time to address any outstanding home issues. But you don’t have to face them alone. Today, Great Life Colorado covers several tips that will help you enhance the appeal and function of your home.

Refresh Any Rooms That Need It

If there are any rooms or spaces in your home that simply need to be revitalized, now is a great time to do it. Look for any walls or doors that need a fresh coat of paint, and consider adding a dose of color to make the space pop. Painting a room is easy to do yourself, and it’s inexpensive as well.

See if your office could use an organizational overhaul, or if your living room or bedroom could use a rearrangement and/or some new decor or furnishings. Consider upgrading the hardware on your kitchen cabinets or replacing the light fixture or updating the mirror in your bathroom. Simple improvements like these can all add appeal and value to your home, and you can get most (if not all) of the items you need online.

In the bedroom, be sure to add some subtle welcoming touches. An elegantly-designed custom bed set, for example, can add some appeal to the bedroom when showing the house. Just don’t make it too ostentatious.

Tend to the Landscaping

Landscaping doesn’t have to be extravagant. Sometimes, all it takes is shaping up your property a little. For instance, make sure you are keeping the grass mowed regularly, and trim any bushes and trees that have become overgrown. If you want to go the extra mile, look for ways that you can add color and texture, such as planting flowers, using unique flower pots, spreading mulch or pine straw, and maybe even building a couple of window-box planters

Check the Roof and Gutters

The roof and gutters are essential to protecting your property, and now is the perfect time to make sure they are in good condition. For starters, Family Handyman suggests looking for any leaks in the attic or other parts of your home, stained ceilings or walls, and broken, missing, or worn-out shingles. If you spot any of these problems, you may need a roof repair or replacement. Also, make sure your gutters are free of debris (e.g., leaves, twigs, acorns, etc.) and that your downspouts are directing water away from your home’s foundation.

Replace Weatherstripping and Caulking

Weatherstripping around doors and windows wears out over time. Inspect your property to see if there are any areas where the weatherstripping needs to be replaced, which is a task that can be DIYed. Check for any cracks or gaps on your home’s exterior that need to be recaulked as well, and consider shaping up the caulk in your home’s interior while you’re at it. All of this will help to keep critters out of your home and prevent your home from wasting heat or air conditioning.

By making improvements like reorganizing your office, investing in your landscaping, and replacing weather stripping, you can create a more enjoyable living environment for your household. Not only that, but these upgrades can also boost the value of your home, which is a great way to protect your investment.
