The Pike National Forest, which runs right through town provides habitat for the local wildlife, including elk, deer, fox, mountain lions and more.  Historic Reynolds Park  located on the west side of South Foxton Road, hiker and equestrian trails allow visitors to climb to scenic overlooks. Mountain bikes are welcome to explore the east side of South Foxton Road and connect to the 10.1-mile North Fork Trail that originates at the parking lot and terminates at the South Platte River, allowing access to the Colorado Trail.

A can’t miss in the area is Staunton State Park From high grassy meadows at 8,100 feet to soaring granite cliffs over 10,000 feet, Staunton State Park’s varied geology, soils, water features, and climate support rare and unexpected plant communities and a rich diversity of wildlife and provide a myriad of outdoor recreation opportunities.  Even more unique the park features the track chair program which has enhance access to countless mobility impaired visitors.
